Sphere of beauty (Kabbalah)
- Tiphareth sephira
Description
This sphere of awareness is associated with a sense of individuality and with an understanding of the psychological self and thus with the development of selfhood and individuality. It corresponds to the developmental phase of prime adulthood and achievement of self-confidence. As the centre or heart of the ten spheres of the kabbalistic system, it is called beauty, heaven and glory - the mediating stage between man and God, where man experiences spiritual rebirth, harmonizing of personality and balance of the rational and the emotional. It is the sphere of sacrifice, when the old personality is offered up and new, universal understanding and insight begin to operate. There is a glimpse of light beyond the abyss caused by the fall. It is symbolized by the positive and negative archetypes of self and Lucifer, and by the Sun, as well as by Jacob in the Jewish tradition.
Context
This sphere is the sixth of ten described in the Kabbalistic system of sephiroth.
