Sphere of the foundation (Kabbalah)

This sphere of awareness is associated with ego identity, with the psychological functions of the persona and its shadow, and thus with the development of a sense of acuity. It corresponds to the developmental phase of infancy and ego perception. It is the state related to the sexual instinct and to witchcraft. It is symbolized by the positive and negative archetypes of Diana, Hecate and the Moon, as well as by Joseph in the Jewish tradition.

This sphere is the ninth of ten described in the Kabbalistic system of sephiroth.
