Measuring emblems (Tarot)
- Justice
Description
Among the archetypal emblems projected by the psyche are those that depict measuring, weighing, testing and analysis. One of the common elements to these operations is comparison against a standard, and traditional depictions of the [weighing of the soul]
indicate one aspect of the emblems' meaning. In the Tarot system the emblem called "Justice" (number 8) has the conventional, seated female figure with scales in one hand, and the sword of discernment in the other. No further progress can be made on the path until retribution has been made for previous wrongdoing. The worldly aspects of self are overcome on the path towards integration with the higher, spiritual self.
Context
In the Kabbalah, Justice is placed on the 22nd Path between and beauty (Tiphareth) and force or judgement (Geburah).
