Death emblems (Tarot)
- Grim reaper
Description
Among the critical archetypal images projected by the psyche is the emblem of death of the living person; but there are also emblems of cessation, finality and separation as applied to human relationships, and to some extent, to other human affairs such as careers and enterprises. In the Tarot system the emblem called Death (number 13) is that of the skeletal Grim Reaper with his scythe. This is the figure traditionally represented as mowing or cutting down human lives symbolized by sheaves of grain, man is temporal and limited. There is light on the horizon, however; new life and regeneration are promised, a spiritual rebirth and awakening through the path of death.
Context
The Reaper is placed on the Kabbalistic Path (number 24) between victory or force (Netzach) and beauty (Tiphareth).
