Middle-path tantra awareness (Buddhism, Tibetan)

  • Ubhaya-carya-tantra

Description

This state of awareness is characterized as an outer-and-inner yoga, when meditation oscillates between being object-oriented and being objectless. Unlike hatha yoga, in which physical restriction of breathing is used to induce trance states, the carya tantra, like raja yoga, restrains the mind first. Breathing becomes calmed of itself and then regulated by mental concentration and observation.

Context

In Tibetan Sakya Buddhism this is one of the states in the "Ascension Stages Game". In some sets it is numbered 41 on the board.
