Great-path tantra awareness (Buddhism, Tibetan)

  • Mahamudra

Description

This state of awareness is characterized by identification with the Buddhas of the 5 tantric Buddha families. It is said to be achieved after the absolute truth of emptiness has been realized and the apparently personal mental elements (skandhas) have been purified. The mind is represented in this stage as generating the divine mandala of the 5 high Buddhas who are addressed with the appropriate 5 gestures (mudras). At this stage there is no more regression into lower paths.

Context

In Tibetan Sakya Buddhism this is one of the states in the "Ascension Stages Game". In some sets it is numbered 42 on the board.
