Kalacakra-tantra shambhala awareness (Buddhism, Tibetan)
Description
The time-wheel (kalacakra) tantra represents a state of awareness of timelessness as a place: an idyllic, never-changing Shangrilah (Shambhala). It is the yogi's goal as he loses the horizons of this world from his sight while crossing the high-land (Tibet) in his northward trek. This state of timelessness is epitomized in the representation of the "polar" palace-city, Kalopa, which is the heart of Shambhala. Below it (or "south" of it) the kalacakra tantra mandala turns, measuring out the aeons of the samsara. Shambhala is one of the magic terrestrial lands of attainment. Others are Potala Island, far to the south of Tibet, and the lotus-light palace of Urgyan. Such places may also exist in the collective store-house (zelaya) consciousness of humanity. Their topography "constellates" psychic content.
Context
In Tibetan Sakya Buddhism this is one of the states in the "Ascension Stages Game". In some sets it is numbered 59 on the board.
