The general rise in birth defects of the genitals are caused by chemicals introduced into the environment that act like hormones. Hormones that control cellular reproduction in effect control our ability to have children and our susceptibility to cancer, so it is very important not to interfere with the chemical messages they transfer throughout the body. All kinds of animals are affected, not just humans.
