Nature:
Thought can be controlled by limitations on the access to information, or by the punishment of deviation from a nationally accepted or imposed norm. Where successful, denial of freedom of thought tends to produce intellectual and cultural stagnation, apathy, intolerance and prejudice and encourages exploitation and elitism through support for dictatorial or totalitarian regimes.
