Training youth for employment in sustainable development

  • Creating alternative employment opportunities for young people
  • Using innovative approaches for training youth in environmental issues
  • Expanding vocational training in sustainable development for young people

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends developing and implementing strategies for creating alternative employment opportunities and providing necessary training to young men and women, in cooperation with relevant ministries and organizations, including representatives of youth. It also recommends expanding existing vocational training and implementing innovative methods aimed at increasing practical skills, such as environmental scouting.
