  2. Breakdown of local community cohesion

Breakdown of local community cohesion

  • Limited identification with neighbourhood community
  • Indistinct community identification
  • Reduced civic awareness
  • Ineffective local unity
  • Unsettled town unity

Nature

Communities no longer see themselves as groups of people concerned with others, and no longer have the discipline needed to attain a common vision. Many present-day communities consist of groups of isolated individuals struggling to relate to the demands of urbanization and industrialization, having withdrawn and become isolated from meaningfully taking part in world society. The effect of loss of a sense of destiny, isolationism and a failure to live beyond the moment is also illustrated in the collapse of the family as a unit.
