Nichiren shoshu buddhism (Buddhism)

  • Nam-myoho-renge-kyo
  • Lotus sutra

Description

This branch of buddhism aims to overcome the human problems of daily life and manifest the latent qualities in the individual so that he is able to develop himself and have a positive effect on an ever increasing sphere. Emphasis is on wisdom, courage, compassion and life-force. A happy life is said to be based on the attitude towards problems and suffering; the individual develops through his suffering, he grows as a person by chanting on his suffering. Based on the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin (1222-1282), said to be the Buddha for the present age, the system is based on the practice of reciting chapters of the lotus sutra and of chanting every morning and evening the mantra "nam-myoho-renge-kyo", the invocation of the lotus sutra, the sutra for the present evil age. Hope is for a future in which the human race as a whole develops so as to overcome its problems. Although written and theoretical proof of a system are important, the most important is said to be that it works in practice.
