Level of the causal body

  • Level of the soul body
  • Second level of the higher self - Fifth chakra

Description

This is the level of mastery over the elements. St John was invited to "Come up hither" where he reveals the twelve signs of the zodiac as energies in the psyche and demonstrates the forces attempting to dominate the psyche. On the side of evil are: the dragon (false sense of self); the beast from the sea (identification, a false sense of belonging resulting from the false sense of self); the beast from the earth (materialistic intellect); and the image set up to the first beast (a false idea of progress pictured in the mind). Opposing these are the forces which, operating in the saint, give rise to Christ consciousness: humility and sacrifice. This level is interpreted as working from the level of soul, when one's material conditions do not dictate one's level of awareness and when one understands and lives harmoniously with nature, one is at the level of causes and not effects.

Context

The fifth level in progressing from the lower self to the higher self as described by F Aster Barnwell. Mastery of the first three levels (the lower self) as experienced in the three temptations faced by Christ in the wilderness, followed by the four levels of the higher self experienced by St John during his Revelation, are related to progression towards self realization through the levels of consciousness represented by the chakras.
