Twenty percent of the world's population survives on a daily income of less than one US dollar. While 20 percent of the world's population at the top of the income ladder receives 83 percent of the global income, the bottom 20 percent receives 1.5 percent. UNDP reports that in 1962 the same top 20 percent had 30 times the income of the poorest 20 percent. Today the top 20 percent has 60 times the income of the poorest 20 percent.
