Informing local communities about hazardous installations

Implementation:
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends the development of procedures and practices to enable local communities to receive information about hazardous installations or situations in their areas and to facilitate their participation in early warning and disaster abatement and response procedures and plans.
