This can take the form of violent acts against popular figures, and encouragement and financing of any of an array of opposition forces, from the domestic political scene to neighbouring enemies. Additionally, public image campaigns can be mounted to destroy the reputation of the forces in power.

Since the inception of the National Security Act in the USA in 1947, there has been a proliferation of Central Intelligence Agency activity in weapons, drugs, shadow government and destabilization of and within a number of countries.
