Problem

False image of scarcity

Nature:
Societies with abundant resources but which operate from an image of scarcity require over-consumption to sustain themselves. Either goods must be accumulated or goods must be wasted in order to feed the consumption machine. Production systems perpetuate themselves by producing unnecessary goods, goods which are unrelated to needs, encouraging even more over-consumption.
