strategy

Protecting agriculture and the food production industries

Implementation:
The SAFE Alliance is a UK network of 32 environment, farmers and consumer organisations promoting a more sustainable food culture. In 1995, SAFE started the FOODMILES campaign to raise awareness of SAFE's main task is to ensure that these groups communicate with each other, promote good practices and lobby jointly. The key issues on which joint activities have been carried out by SAFE are: 1) creating/saving jobs in agriculture; 2) promoting sustainable agriculture; 3) campaigning for a reform of the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP); 4) encouraging supermarkets to source more local and organic produce; and 5) campaigning for a reduction of food miles.
