strategy

Assessing and eliminating emissions of uncontrollable organo-halogens

Implementation:
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends studying the use of persistent organo-halogens that are liable to accumulate in the marine environment in order to identify those that cannot be adequately controlled and to provide a basis for deciding on a time schedule for phasing them out as soon as practicable.
