The Carroll Sustainable Natural Farming project in Iowa, USA has motivated farmers to establish the Wonder Life Research Farm to provide a demonstration of quality feed and food stuffs while preserving soil fertility and productivity. A local farmer took responsibility to prove the chemical free approach to farming system on his own farm and to work with farmers in his area. The programme involves systematic recovery of soil fertility through crop tillage practices. New people entering the programme are phased into a self-sufficient operation over three years with regular guidance from Master Farmers already established in the programme. Several hundred farmers in southwest Iowa are now using natural farming methods. Benefits are reduced crop production costs and higher net yields achieving premium prices and quality feed and food stuffs.
