Generating harnessed power Employing energy recovery processes
Implementation:
District heating and cooling with "waste" energy from power generation or industrial processes to warm or cool building spaces is proving increasingly more valuable for urban energy needs. By using cogeneration and a city-wide district heating system which employs the waste heat produced in its power generation, Helsinki's power generation system operates at nearly 80% efficiency, compared with a normal 35% efficiency of typical North American power plants.
