Improving coordination of waste management programmes in the United Nations system

Implementation:
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), Rio de Janeiro 1992, now coordinated by the UN Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends launching a settlement infrastructure and environment programme following UNCED to coordinate the activities of all organizations of the UN system involved in this area and including a clearing-house for information dissemination on all waste management issues.
