Background:

The genus Blarinella comprises of two species of burrowing shrew, which are restricted to north Myanmar and parts of southern China. Blarinella wardi has only just been recognised as a separate species.

Little is known of the habitat or ecology of B. wardi apart from that its preferred habitat is montane forest.

Incidence:

Blarinella wardi is considered as "Lower Risk" sub-category "Near Threatened" by the IUCN.
