Alteration in skin appearance

In symbolism involving the human body the skin may be represented as altered. Related symbols include wrinkles lines, scars, brands and wounds. The skin also may be represented as coloured by tattoos, war-paint, grease-paint, cosmetics, camouflage or other agents. The skin may appear spotted, pallid, livid, etc. It may also be represented as hairy, scaly, or blotched. Its condition may be tight or loose.
Metaphor:
The representation of a particular marking, coloration or other condition of the skin may indicate general vitality or morbidity, or particular moral states, personality traits, moods or dispositions to action. The appearance of the skin as a symbol is considered important, for example, in pantomime and theatre.<
