Human Development

Kamaloka consciousness

Description:
States of consciousness exist as are appropriate to the beings in the sensuous world (kamaloka). There are four sub-human realms of beings: hell, demon world, animal kingdom and ghost world. Then there is the human world; and above it the deva lokas of heavenly beings, of which there are six kinds in the sensuous sphere.
Context:
The mystical geography of southern Buddhism for this sphere is similar to that of the northern Buddhism of Tibet. The Pali has six levels; the Tibetan also has six, but the order is different; and the Pali uniquely has an infernal demon world while the Tibetan has a unique, superior demigod world. This means the human world is fifth in Pali but fourth in the Tibetan.<
