Reducing loss of common open spaces
- Preserving treasured local places
Context
4% of land in Britain is officially classified as common, and of this, four-fifths has no public access.
Implementation
Activists in Britain have and are planning to establish settlements on former common land, now owned by corporations or wealthy people across the country. The mass trespass has been coordinated by The Land is Ours coalition, whose actions are meant to draw attention to and halt the loss of open spaces such as village greens, city farms and children's play areas to development.
