Providing incentives for industry to use cleaner production technology

  • Implementing economic instruments to promote cleaner production

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends promoting public education and a range of regulatory and non-regulatory incentives to encourage industry to change product design and reduce industrial process waste through cleaner production technology and good housekeeping practice.
