Including youth in task forces on environmental education

  • Consulting youth on environmental information for young people

Context

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends establishing task forces that include the young and youth non-governmental organizations to develop educational and awareness programmes on critical issues pertaining to youth and specifically targeted at the young population. These task forces should use formal and non-formal educational methods to reach a maximum audience. National and local media, non-governmental organizations, businesses and other organizations should assist in these task forces.
