Improving basic education for the poor

Context

By giving high priority to basic education and professional training, a widening of options for resource-poor people would be achieved. The human resources would thus be available to develop adequate infrastructure, marketing systems, technology systems, credit systems etc. The above actions should be accomplished with international support, where necessary.

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.
