Assessing effects of climate change on freshwater resources and flood control

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends developing and applying techniques and methods for assessing the potential adverse effects of climate change on freshwater resources and on the risk of flooding through changes in temperature, precipitation and sea-level rise.

Claim

Some scientists believe that algal blooms could occur more frequently as temperatures warm--particularly in areas with polluted waters--in which case diseases such a cholera that tend to accompany algal blooms could become more frequent.
