Undervaluation of community service

Individuals find that their desire to serve society is blocked. The symbols of recognition by the larger society that a profession has a significant role in the health of the social fabric are largely gone. Stories about the importance of a job have been replaced by waiting for retirement myths. Even the most specialized of professionals find themselves as a part of thousands of other professionals. Attempts to actually solve problems is frustrated by the size of any task when looked at from a global perspective.
