Government misrepresentation of human rights abuses
Incidence
Repressive regimes reframe human rights abuses, notably in relation to torture and executions, by the use of euphemisms. For example the Argentinian government employed the term "disappearance" for political execution. The Chilean government used the phrase "suppression of life". The Serbian government used the phrase "ethnic cleansing".
