Decisional paralysis of specialized services in relation to the world's need

Nature

Specialists are aware that vast needs around the globe are not being met, and that a plan to use skills effectively is lacking. They see a number of unprecedented issues being raised in such areas as medicine, physics, law and genetics, yet are often caught in bureaucratic structures more interested in perpetuating themselves than in dealing with the problems with which they are supposed to deal. Problem analysis takes years and leads to reports that often result in inaction. Skilled professionals are being held up to the public as models of competence and ingenuity, while at the same time experiencing uncertainty and ambiguity at the awesome decisions they are being called upon to make in a technological age frought with relative values. Rather than raise the question of care for the vast majority, they escape into reduced concerns restricted to a limited arena.
