Compounding effect of treating genetic diseases

  • Negative aspects of euphenics
  • Deterioration of gene pool
  • Abuses in the medical application of genetics
  • Abuse of gene therapy

Nature

As medical science is able to apply medical and surgical treatments to genetic diseases – successful treatment also removes barriers of reproduction – the frequency of each malfunctioning gene concerned will increase in subsequent generations. Also a probability of producing genotypes with multiple disorders, e.g. someone with haemophilia and sickle-cell anaemia, increases progressively.
