Voluntary possession

Description

In this state a person voluntary surrenders the personality to that of a deity. Having worshipped through dance and chant to be in a receptive mode, the worshippers are "mounted" by the deity, being the willing "horse" for anything up to several hours, during which time they take on the personality of the god, exhibiting his or her speech and behaviour, impervious to pain and uttering prophecies.
