Vocation (Christianity)
- Calling
Description
Christians receive a call or a calling to share in redemptive blessings to which God has appointed them. Since this call comes from God, it is referred to in scriptures as a "high calling" or a "heavenly calling". While there is the moral freedom to respond or not to the call, God works with the Christian both in his will, to respond to the call, and in the working of that response. The Christian is also said to be called to earn his living so that the work which he does is pleasing to God and is done to the best of his ability. The term "vocation" is therefore not simply a calling to the Christian life but implies a certain quality in the daily work of the Christian.
