Supreme-heaven awareness (Buddhism, Tibetan)

  • Akanistha

Description

This state of awareness is characterized as the epitome of conscious existence and represented as the heaven of the supreme divinities of the Pure lands. Here, it is said, are the Buddhas of the six directions and their assemblies of Buddhas-to-be, arch-angelic bodhisattvas of the tenth stage. Here too arrive the saintly yogis, whose bodies live on earth while their minds ascend to the Buddhist Olympus in concentration. There, in the enclosure of the vajra-dhatu Palace, the Buddhas in their higher bodies (sambhoga-kaya) teach the final secrets of the Great Vehicle. The Buddha-field, akanistha, is symbolized as a lotus.

Context

In Tibetan Sakya Buddhism this is one of the states in the "Ascension Stages Game". In some sets it is numbered 84 on the board.
