Sultan-al-dhikr (Sufism)
Description
The physical motion of the heart murmuring "Allah" is heard freely and known to arise from the pine-shaped heart. The motion starts to disperse to all parts of the body, although the seeker concentrates only on the heart. It may first arise in the hand, the foot, the head, etc. Eventually the whole body is filled. A variety of states may be experienced, from happiness to dejection and bewilderment, but these are not attended to, all attention is on the dhikr. Even when the whole body murmurs "Allah" there may be greater dominance of one organ over another. When distribution is even there is a feeling of great pleasure experienced as [sultan-al-dhikr]
.
Context
This is the third state arising in the method of dhikr described by Shaykh Kalimallah.
