Spiritual envy (Christianity)

Many beginners on the spirit path are really irritated by other people's spirituality and thus suffer from spiritual envy. They are pained by being overtaken on the spiritual road. They would rather not hear others praised about their growth. Not only do they not take pleasure in the development others that they often refute this growth as being false. They even disparage praise given to others. They want to be first in everything and become irate when they are not praised. This is the opposite of spiritual love.
