Sho-chu-rai (Zen, Japanese)
Description
The disciple experiences ku – emptiness, as he comes out of absolute reality – sho – and, therefore, of hen (relative reality), as it is related to sho. There is no longer any awareness of body or mind.
Context
One of five degrees of enlightenment – goi – enumerated in Zen buddhism, the depth of enlightenment depending upon the relationship of sho (absolute reality) with hen (relative reality). This is the third degree of enlightenment.
