Hen-chu-sho (Zen, Japanese)
Description
The disciple experiences absolute reality – sho – in the midst of hen (relative reality). Here unity, unchangeableness and sameness predominate, the world of the manifold, of differentiation recedes.
Context
One of five degrees of enlightenment – goi – enumerated in Zen buddhism, the depth of enlightenment depending upon the relationship of sho (absolute reality) with hen (relative reality). This is the second degree of enlightenment.
