Selflessness (Buddhism)
- Self-emptiness
Description
The awareness of true true selflessness, such as will lead to liberation from cyclic existence, entails analysis of the inherent existence of phenomena and the penetrating perception that objects do not exist as they appear to do. This is a far finer concept than simply not conceiving the self of phenomena (which could be achieved through sleep or stupor). Such realization of the subtle emptiness of phenomena is the aim of Tibetan meditation upon emptiness, as it is of all Buddhist schools.
