Fukatoku (Zen, Japanese)

Because phenomena arise as a result of causes - whether direct or indirect - their existence depends on what is transitory or changeable. In reality they are insubstantial, empty because they are devoid of the unchanging. This is the awareness that it is the nature of phenomena that they cannot be grasped or clung to.
