Description
The six great virtues to be attained are: sama – control of the mind; dama – control of the senses; uparama – quietness of mind in fulfilling one's duties; titiksa – quietness of mind in endurance; sraddha – faith in the teaching of one's guru and in the scriptures; samadhana – concentrated contemplation of the teaching of one's guru and of the scriptures.
Context
Together with dispassion – vairagya discrimination – viveka – and desire for liberation – mumuksutva, listed by Shankara as one of the four requirements for one who has spiritual aspirations.
