Reflexivity

Awareness of paradigmatic codes as codes, namely the deliberate awareness of constructing and using a code, and the having of that awareness as part of the code. From this perspective, any spiritual tradition or psychological discipline may be considered heuristically valuable as a tool, without requiring that they be "true". This avoids the tendency of a person to map any one of these codes onto his entire ontology. It does not involve making everything conscious, rather it includes the possibility that the code of which the person is aware is fed by sources that lend themselves only to indirect awareness.
