Perception through the senses
- Sensory perception
Description
According to Western tradition there are five senses - [taste]
, [touch]
, [hearing]
, [sight]
and [smell]
- although none is said to be totally independent of the others; sensitivity to pressure, temperature, radiation, equilibrium, pain and perception of depth, distance and time have also been posited as specific senses. Such sensations are interpreted according to the nervous system, psychology and culture of the individual concerned and are therefore subjective. Buddhist scripture classes "mental consciousness" or "intellectual thought" with the five physical senses.
