Knowledge of the path of non-return (Buddhism)

  • Anagamin

Description

The noble disciple, a once-returner, attenuates greed for sense-desires and ill will. Seeing the five aggregates as impermanent, painful and not self, he passes through the series of insights terminating in change-of-lineage. The path of non-return arises; knowledge associated with it is the knowledge of the path of non-return. This is the fifth noble person. Supramundane path moment non-return consciousness is followed by two or three fruition moment non-return consciousnesses. This is the sixth noble person. After death he appears elsewhere and, attaining complete extinction, never returns to this world through rebirth linking. He thus becomes an anagamin, never returner, on the third stage of the arya marga (supramundane path).
