Female sovereignty archetypal image (Tarot)

One of the archetypal emblems projected by the psyche is the matron, a mature woman of authority (mundane as opposed to spiritual). In the Tarot she is represented by the emblem of the Empress (image number 3). This is the realm of pure illumination, where the archetypal opposites - mother and father - are combined; on the Tree of Life, this is the highest form of balance. From the womb of the Empress flow all forms capable of manifest existence.

In the Kabbalah, the Empress is said to correspond to the 14th path from intelligence (Chokmah) to wisdom (Binah).
