Besetting sin (ICA)

Description

This is the awareness that all of existence is nothing other than separation and desecration, and that one is at the centre of all disrelationships. It occurs when one acknowledges that every act, even the most creative, creates separation, every act is in the state of sin, as when Jesus says, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

Context

In the ICA New Religious Mode, in the arena of acting out one's freedom (the life of prayer) the first formal aspect is one's struggle with repentance for one's sinfulness or confession. At the third phenomenological level this occurs when one acknowledges that which is beyond one's power to control.
