Curing demosclerosis

Context:
Demosclerosis is the political equivalent of arteriosclerosis. It is suggested that organized interest groups, with the helping hand of electronic democracy, have multiplied to the point that they clog the arteries of democracy. The mobilization of opinion has fallen into the hands of private interests pursuing very specific and narrow agendas, and because this requires money, those with it are heard. Thus, payments to the poor are the most vulnerable items in the government budget, while tax cuts for the wealthy command support. We need to find a cure for demosclerosis.
